About

For over 40 years I have been creating my own unique style of art; from small matted and framed works sold at art festivals and gift galleries to larger mixed media constructions. I build my illusions by manipulating scale and transforming small common objects and their parts into something new. My artwork is an extension of the paper doll houses I built as a child, when a jewelry box became a dresser; a perfume bottle, a lamp; and a book, a bed. Today, everything I create is an evolving series of related work that reflects my personal story and illuminates transformation.

While studying for a degree in psychology, I became fascinated with the theories of Carl Jung. He believed the way to achieve wholeness was through knowledge and acceptance of the unconscious mind. I was sexually abused as a child and for many years into adulthood, I forgot that it happened. Only after college, marriage and having my own daughter did the memories resurface following a dream. When I did remember, it was as if I had always known. Understanding how memories are lost and recovered became my lifelong passion.

The best way to get a glimpse of the inner workings of the subconscious mind is through an understanding of the visual language of dreams. Dreams are often on the cutting edge of awareness and hold in story form what appears on the surface to be gibberish. It is hard to decipher and analyze dreams, let alone to even remember them. Using generic dream symbols as a starting point and through practice, I discovered the dream to be a new arrangement of the past and present, exposing previously unrecognizable aspects within the framework of personal dream symbols and metaphors. During the journaling process, I sometimes become aware of synchronicities as they occur that otherwise might go unnoticed. As the stuff of the unconscious surfaces and awareness expands, we view our past differently. This allows our present and future to change. We are in a continuous process of being transformed.
